A big key to combatting medical error is to get rid of this ridiculous notion that the doctor knows what’s best for you and you should just do whatever the doctor tells you to do. Even if she does know what’s best, she is a human being, she makes mistakes. There has been a massive effort in aviation to teach copilots how to work with pilots, because it’s a plain obvious truth that two brains are more likely to find errors than one.
